Between Nice (to the east) and St-Tropez (to the southwest), Cannes is positioned in a truly idyllic spot, overlooking France’s glittering, sun-soaked Côte d’Azur. Indeed, synonymous as the town is with Hollywood glamour and the silver screen, there’s seems to be no better place to observe and enjoy the high-life of the French Riviera. And fortunately, it’s also the perfect day-trip from nearby Siblu holiday park, Le Montourey (near Fréjus).

Beaches
Seemingly everywhere you turn in Cannes there is a beach. However for some of the best, our top tip is to take the short boat trip from the Port de Cannes to the Ile Sainte Marguerite. Not only is the boat trip itself a lot of fun, you land on an island which has barely been touched and is full of rocky coves, sandy beaches and there is little more than the buzz of the cicadas. Oh, and an occasional boat that comes around selling ice cream. Well it would be rude not too

Follow in the footsteps
Or should that be handprints? No trip to Cannes is complete without cruising the length and breadth of the Promenade de la Croisette. There, in front of the Palais des Festivals, you will also stumble across the Allée des Etoiles and count more than 300 autographed, celebrity handprints! Or indulge in a spot of window-shopping in the many haute couture and designer boutiques that line this famous boulevard. Then, walk the quays and admire the dinghies, sailboats and jaw-dropping super-yachts moored in Cannes’ Vieux Port. If these activities leave you exhausted, sit back and relax in an outdoor cafe and watch the great and the good amble by. Holiday bliss.

Relax
The Le Suquet district is the ‘old town’ heart of Cannes. Meander its narrow streets, marvel at the amazing vistas, and simply soak up the local atmosphere. And don’t miss a visit to Marché Forville – with its vast selection of fresh, local produce (fish, cheese, charcuterie), it’s the perfect place to pick up a picnic. Unsurprisingly, Cannes is also littered with great restaurants – so pick a spot, order a Salade Niçoise and sip a glass of chilled Bandol rosé (for a local twist, make it rosé en piscine – rosé “on the rocks”) while enjoying the unadulterated sea views.
